CT Artist of the Year 2018
Marny Lawton is a painter working in oil and egg tempera painting nature and food that never spoils to help feed the hungry. More naturalist and painterly than romantic, she looks for the meditative beauty in the ordinary, the extraordinary in the often overlooked. Her work has been shown across the country and collected internationally.
Lawton graduated from Paier College of Art in New Haven, CT, picking up egg tempera painting later. She says it feels like working directly with the old masters, making her own paints and working as an alchemist. Giving the viewer a feeling of belonging in nature she strives for an archaic knowledge that is part of our genetic makeup and responsibility of living on this planet we all call home.
